Het Oranjehotel
(This is the name of the building the story is about)
A historical story placed in Wijhe, a small village in The Netherlands. Based on a true story.
A couple from Amsterdam decided, just before WOII, to move to a small village at the other side of the country. They wanted to take over a local hotel: Hotel Veerman. It was an important hotel where all of the residents from Wijhe came to talk, drink beer, rehearse for the theatrical play, came after there sports training and connect with each other.
When WOII started, the place stayed the same. At least, for the residents. But besides them the german soldiers stayed in the hotel, the activist met and Jewish in hiding worked in the hotel.
Resistance fighter Jan Frederik Dalemans met with their working partner Kapitein Walta. They made plans to bring food from the Wijhese farmers to retirement homes in Amsterdam. Jan won’t survive the war. As a tribute to him, they renamed the hotel from Hotel Veerman to Het Oranjehotel.
Yaël Korse, with director Roel Vinke, tells the stories from Het Oranjehotel in a performance that is not average. They look to the past and connect that with the present. At the way we meet each other nowadays. To our manners and the way we search connection with each other.
